What are the 7 main types of road signs in Ukraine?
DSTU establishes 7 groups of road signs:
- warning
- priority signs
- forbidding
- prescribing
- informative and indicative
- service marks
- additional information signs (road sign plates)
Each road sign is assigned a number consisting of:
- numbers of the group to which the sign belongs,
- ordinal number of the sign in the group,
- ordinal number of the variety of the sign (if available), separated by dots.
Group 1. Warning road signs
The serial number of these characters begins with the number 1
Warning road signs are used to inform traffic participants about the approach to a dangerous section of the road and the nature of the danger in the section, the movement of which requires the adoption of measures in accordance with the warning on the signs
Group 2. Priority signs
The serial number of these characters begins with the number 2
Priority signs are used to indicate the order of passage of intersections, intersections of individual road sections, as well as narrow sections of roads, traffic on which is not regulated by traffic lights or regulators.
Group 3. Prohibitory signs
The serial number of these characters begins with the number 3
Prohibition signs are used to introduce movement restrictions or their cancellation.
Group 4. Prescriptive signs
The serial number of these characters begins with the number 4
Prescriptive signs are used to enter the necessary modes of movement.
Group 5 Informational and indicative signs
The serial number of these characters begins with the number 5
Informational and directional signs are used for route orientation and informing traffic participants about the peculiarities of the traffic regime or about the location of settlements and other objects on the route.
Group 5 Service signs
Service signs 6.1 - 6.24 are used to inform road users about the relevant objects. Service signs must be installed directly near the objects, and if they are located away from the road, near the turning points to them. In the latter case, the direction of movement to the object and the distance to it should be indicated on the sign.
Group 7 Plates for road signs

Plates for road signs are used to specify and limit the action of other road signs. Plates should only be used together with signs. They must be placed directly under the sign, with the exception of plates 7.2.2 - 7.2.4 and 7.8.
With one sign, with the exception of signs 5.42.1, 5.42.2, 5.42.4, 5.42.5 and 5.43, it is allowed to use no more than two plates.
What are the 2 main types of road signs depending on the time of use?
- permanent – installed in accordance with the project (scheme) of the OGR according to DSTU 8752
- temporary - established in places where road works are carried out according to DSTU 8749; on sections of roads where the state of roadway coverage and curbs temporarily do not meet the requirements of DSTU 3587 and need to be repaired; on road sections where traffic jams are observed.
The terms of use of temporary road signs are limited by the duration of road works or the end of the events that caused their use.
What is the sequence of placement of road signs on the stand
When installing several road signs on one road stand, the question of the sequence of installation arises. In this case, it is necessary to use the instructions of DSTU 4100, the rules of which state:
The sequence of placement of signs of different groups on one support (top-down or left-right) should be as follows:
priority signs
warning signs
prescribing signs
prohibitory signs
informational signs
service marks.
With the exception of signs 5.71.1 and 5.72.2, which, when several signs are installed on one support at the exit to the road, are placed on top of the other signs.
